Additional Conference Activities
Additional activities will be featured throughout the conference.
These activities will take place on Tuesday, Wednesday, and
Thursday, unless otherwise noted below.
The Formal Video Program at CHI '95 showcases visual
interaction design, innovative interaction techniques, multimedia,
usability testing in action, and visions of future interfaces. Many
videos demonstrate an innovative system; others create a vision of
future technology. The program will contain material of interest to
all conference participants.
A special section of the program has been dedicated to Scenarios:
videos showing users' interactions with systems in everyday
situations. The Formal Video Program will be shown continuously
throughout the conference in a designated theater area. The
program will also be available for viewing in most of the
conference hotels on an in-room television channel.
All conference participants are invited to bring videotapes (VHS
only, PAL or NTSC format) of their recent work for viewing in the
informal video area. Suitable videos include those that missed the
formal video deadline, videos too long for the formal video
program, videos illustrating papers, and videos deemed to be of
special or peripheral interest. Please mark your videotape clearly
with your name, address, and video title before leaving it at the
informal video area. We will do our best to safeguard the tapes, but
CHI '95 will not be responsible for lost or damaged tapes.
CHI '95 will provide space for informal demonstrations of works
in progress or works completed too late to meet the formal
program deadlines. Participants are encouraged to bring their own
hardware and software, particularly if their demonstration requires
anything special. CHI '95 will provide some common platforms,
but prospective demonstrators should check availability of the
system they plan to use before their demonstration. Participants
may schedule an informal demonstration during the conference by
signing up at the Informal Demonstrations room. Alternatively, to
schedule an informal demonstration in advance, or for further
information, contact:

The Interactive Experience focuses on interactionbetween people
and innovative interface technologies, including interactive art and
education. All displays emphasize a hands-on approach
encouraging active participation. Many displays accommodate
more than one participant at a time. Visit the Interactive
Experience and explore technologies shaping the future of
interactive computing!
The Exhibits program features the latest in HCI-oriented products
and services from commercial vendors, institutions, and publishers.
Visit the exhibits area to meet technical representatives from
exhibiting companies and to learn about a broad spectrum of new
products. Enjoy the Highlight on Exhibits, to be held in Hall A
on Tuesday, from 10:00 to 11:00 am.
Special Interest Groups (SIGs) enable individualssharing a
common interest to meet informally for discussion. Anyone may
organize a SIG and attend (i.e., you need not be a member of these
groups). CHI '95 provides meeting facilities and advertises the
SIGs to the rest of the conference.
Participants are encouraged to organize SIGs in advance. If a
proposal is received prior to December 16, 1994, the SIG will be
advertised in the CHI '95 Final Program and summarized in the
CHI '95 Conference Companion. SIG proposals will also be
accepted after December 16, and at the conference, on a space-
available basis. SIG proposals should include the
standard CHI '95 cover sheet and a one-page
summary of the SIG with title, organizers, and planned
participants. The summary must be in the standard Conference
Proceedings format.

last session of the day on Tuesday. The meeting is open to all
conference participants. Please attend!
Sunday, May 7

Under Construction
Several timely panels and lively debates are still being planned.
Topics include Digital Libraries, HCI and the National Information
Infrastucture (NII), CHI '95 User Feedback, Giving Personality to
Computers, and a debate between some notable user interface
designers who follow Apple Macintosh guidelines and some
notable user interface designers who don't.
Students from throughout the world, both graduate and
undergraduate, are invited to participate as CHI '95 Student
Volunteers. Student Volunteers are an important part of the
success of each CHI conference. In exchange for assisting with the
conference, Student Volunteers receive free conference
registration, participation in one tutorial, reduced-rate housing, and
an invitation to a reception with leading people from the CHI
community. Other benefits include experiencing the conference
from behind the scenes, a great team spirit, the chance to establish
lasting friendships with other students, and the opportunity to learn
more about the field by interacting closely with leading HCI
experts. Many people first get involved with SIGCHI by being
Student Volunteers, building on this initial involvement throughout
their professional career. A Student Volunteer application form is
available electronically. Applications are
accepted electronically. For information or to apply, please contact:
